Melody from “Seven Nation Army” and rewrite it as a vocal fugue. Genius!

What’s the Evidence on Face Masks? What You Heard Was Probably Wrong
Although most of the studies in the Cochrane Review were on medical workers in a hospital setting, one study followed community transmission of SARS in Beijing. It found that consistently wearing a mask in public was associated with a 70% reduction in risk of catching SARS. Additionally, the authors of the paper noted that most people in the community wore simple surgical masks, not N95 respirators.
What’s the Evidence on Face Masks? What You Heard Was Probably Wrong
Yep, early advice was wrong – get masks and wear them. Can’t find them in stock? Sites are popping up with instructions on how to DIY:
Food Safety and Coronavirus: A Comprehensive Guide | Serious Eats
Found via the invaluable Kottke, this omnibus post covers a lot of my worries. We’re isolated but with a family of four, we need to buy food roughly weekly and I’ve been losing sleep over questions like this. Well worth your time.
Chloroquine, Past and Present | In the Pipeline
The antimalarials are much in the news due to Covid-19, so here’s an actual expert who knows them well and can explain. TL;DR – they’re unlikely to be much help as treatment.
The author is Derek Lowe, long a favorite of mine for his “Things I won’t work with” series and I recommend him highly.
Christopher Ward C60 Elite 1000

I used to covet the Omega Planet Ocean, in the orange-accent model:

The Omega, ref 215.32.44.21.01.001, is $6,450 USD. It’s lovely. This Christophe Ward, ref C60-42ADD3-T0BB0-B0, is $1,680. It has a lot to recommend it, but lets start with pictures. All of these are from their press release.

Looks good on a bracelet, doesn’t it?

That blue/orange.

Up close, the applied markers and three-dimensional hands look beautiful. This thing looks, in a word, luxurious.

I’ve owned CW’s (three maybe?) so as expected the lume is first rate.

Yep. I want one.

So, now that we’ve blitzed the pictures, some information for the rational part of your brain:
- 42mm diameter, 15.4mm thick, 49.3mm lug to lug. 22mm lugs.
- 77g in weight for just the watch, 133g on full 21cm bracelet
- Grade 2 titanium case and bracelet
- Water resistant to 1000m (exceptional for a watch with a display casebook)
- Zirconia ceramic bezel
- SuperLumiNova X1 GL C1
- Anti-reflective-coated sapphire crystal
- Sandblasted and polished hands
The movement is the Sellita SW220, a close copy of the ETA 2836 day-date:
- Swiss made
- 38 hour power reserve
- COSC chronometer certified, -4/+6 seconds per day.
- Hacking and handwinding
- Automatic
There are versions in black too if the orange is too bold for ya:

CW has done several iterations of their logo and its placement, which is of no interest to me. The hands are their most recent and I’m more fond of the minute than the hour. Legible day and night.
At 42mm by 49mm, its Pelagos sized and a lot less expensive. The bracelet even has an on-wrist length adjustment, like the Pelagos.
I’m liking it. I’m talking to Christopher Ward to see if I can review and maybe buy one.

Hell yeah! I’m grateful for many things about San Diego and Southern California, and this is one more for the list. I charge my Bolt at work, continue to covet an EV bike (someday, a Zero shall be mine) and our rooftop solar Just Works.
I’ve got a longer post in the works on sustainability and tipping points, there’s a lot to share.
How to stop Spectrum junk mail and spam calls – The Verge
If you’re tired of getting junk mail from Charter Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable), here’s how you can opt in to Do Not Call, Do Not Email, Do Not Mail, and Do Not Knock in a single online form. While you’re at it, enable the rest of Spectrum’s privacy settings, which control how the ISP uses your personal data to target ads to you.

China Law Blog is outstanding
is about how Xi is responding to the coronavirus outbreak, but I’ve been reading their RSS feed for a few months and highly recommend it. It’s especially educational for anyone considering outsourcing to there, e.g. micro brand watchmakers. Go read about the IP on injection molds, for example.
